Er wurde von 1925 bis 1932 zum Finanzminister und Wazir von Sultan Taimour Al Said, Sultan von Maskat und Oman (Oman), ernannt. W\u00e4hrend dieser Zeit unternahm er eine Reihe von Reisen in die W\u00fcste und \u00fcberquerte als erster Europ\u00e4er den gro\u00dfen Rub ' Al Khali (Leeres Viertel) in den Jahren 1930-1931, eine Reise, die ihn weltweit in die Schlagzeilen brachte und viele Medaillen erhielt.
